Zimbalam Music Monday Featured Artist : Ono Palindromes

June, 6th 2011 13:01

“An Awesome cocktail of the sour flavours of ’80s post punkers like Pil and Pere Ubu decorated with glace cherries of grunge-pop” – NME

Hailing from Exeter UK, Ono Palindromes was Andy Death and Serge Pascal feeding you the sounds of the End of the World (according to MySpace)…

Formed in 2009 and now defunct, the band built quite a buzz about them in their short time together. The Palindromes most notably received praise from the likes of NME, Artrocker, XFM and Dazed and Confused for their original and distinctive alternative rock songs.

Ono Palindromes lists The Cramps, Nirvana and Queens of the Stone Age amongst their musical influences, along with Young Widows, Helmet and Minus, and supported the likes of: The Fall, Pulled Apart by Horses, Jaguar Love and LaFaro.

The Palindromes broke up last October, but check out Andy Death’s new band, Concubines. An indie pop group who is”straddling the indie pop spectrum of the past 30 years… grabbing elements of Bowie.” – Sonic Masala Blog

Zimbalam Featured Artist : Masters in France

May, 31st 2011 10:17

“Sultry and smart indie pop, definitely not from France”

- Jamie Hodgson (NME, Observer, Guardian)

Masters in France, are a Welsh 5 piece – an indie/alternative band whose star has been on the rise all year.

From great reviews in Nylon Magazine USA, BBC Radion One and NME, to their current UK tour and newly released single, A.I. (Artificial Inches, out 30/05/2011), Masters are definitely a band to watch.

A veritable melting point of multiple genres, their sound is solidified somewhere between Ed Ellis Jones’ charismatic vocals and the delicious danceable backing riffs, that wouldn’t be amiss playing soundtrack to an amphetamine-fuelled party.

You can catch them on tour throughout the UK in May, including a slot at Radio One’s Big Weekend.

Zimbalam Featured Artist : Jesus & The Christians

May, 23rd 2011 11:37

This week’s featured artist, Jesus & The Christians, is a political noise pop project with a list of influences that includes Sigmund Freud, Nelson Mandela, Robert Mugabe, Jesus Christ and Mother Teresa.

Listen to Remixing Water into Wine on SoundCloud

Their first record is an electronic remix of album songs by various Dutch indie acts such as Eins Zwei, Orchestra, The Black Atlantic and Ponoka, entitled Remixing Water Into Wine, but Jesus & the Christians are currently working on a record containing their own songs.

According to their Facebook Page :

Expect something so political it will make Rage Against The Machine sound like a rightwing lobby group. Songs with titles like ’9/11 Is Overrated’ (a statistical view on 9/11), ‘Fuck The Goddamn Fear’ (about Christianity, children and the fear of hell) and ‘Copyright Kills Kids In Africa’ (a fun story about AIDS, copyright and kids dieing in Africa) will do the trick.

Our interest is piqued, what about yours?

Their 2010 single Ingrid Won’t Smile is the product of a slightly skewed turn of phrase paired with an acute ability to create innovative harmony.

Richly textured, beautifully layered and never unnecessary, their sound combinations, and sometimes quirky instrument choices, add to the quality compositions.

Jon Crabbe and Barrie Wilson, the original cofounders of the assemblage, set out the frame on which the rest of the troupe add the fabric using “Lyrics chosen for aesthetics and the moods they create, as opposed to direct story telling”.

Classified as unsigned, Milk White White Teeth are set to broaden their fan base past that of their loyal Leeds lovies and Huw Stephens’.

Featured Artist: Charly Coombes & The New Breed

February, 21st 2011 09:20

Charly Coombes & The New Breed are a 4 piece rock and roll band with one finger in a warm 60s soul pie.

Based in Oxford, the band have toured the UK & the US since releasing their debut EP ‘Panic’, including SXSW.  They recently released their second EP, ‘Waves’ and another self-financed UK tour they have been confirmed to play a string of festival dates in the UK. As well as writing great songs they are a great example of how to be successful, independent musicians in today’s uncertain music industry, not to mention nice guys!

They have a great homepage which links to their Facebook, Twitter, Myspace AND Electronic press kit, all of which are all kept up to date and in sync with each other. Both EPs were released digitally via Zimbalam and when we heard them we knew they were on to a good thing and we are proud to announce that we have promoted them on to a Believe Digital where they will receive professional trademarketing & sales promotion. Their track ‘ Jungles & Tide’s will also be featured on a Believe ‘Ones to watch in 2011′ compilation out next month.

If you’ve got something to shout about, a new release, tour, video, competition then let us know and we’ll share it with our followers
